15. π¬ Promotion Video
Creating a short promo video for your app is a great way to showcase what you've built and share your vision with others. Hereβs a quick guide to help you plan and produce a compelling and legally compliant video.
Your video should be around 1β2 minutes long and suitable for uploading to my YouTube channel.
Content-wise, it should cover
- your project idea and final app and/or
- a description of how your project aligns with KMI
- your approaches and methods
- key learnings
- challenges you encountered.
15.1 π§ Planning
Start by outlining your message: What problem does your app solve? Who is your target audience? Draft a simple script or storyboard that explains the idea in a clear and engaging way β aim for 1β2 minutes total.
15.2 π€ Sound & Noise
Good sound is key. Even with basic visuals, clear audio can make your video feel professional. Record in a quiet environment and use an external microphone if possible. Avoid background noise like fans, typing, or chatter.
15.3 π Licenses & Data Protection
Always ensure your video is legally safe
- Only use music, images, and footage you have the right to use (e.g. Creative Commons, royalty-free, or self-created).
- Avoid showing real people, personal data, or third-party content without explicit consent.
- If you use screen recordings of your app, make sure no private user data is visible.
15.4 π₯ Shooting
Use a smartphone or camera with a steady hand (or tripod). Record short, focused clips of your app in action, and consider adding someone speaking or demonstrating the use.
15.5 π¬ Post Production
Cut your footage using simple tools like DaVinci Resolve, iMovie - Mac/iPhone only or openshot. Make sure the final version is short, clear, and well-paced. Export in a common format (like MP4) for easy sharing.
With thoughtful planning and attention to legal and technical details, your video can be a powerful and professional-looking way to present your work.
